During one of my classes this week we discussed how language has evolved over the years and how some words previously had negative connotation to them many years ago but now people are embracing the words and taking them back so that they dont have negativeness associated with them as it was decades ago. The words that we discussed in particualr were cunt, bitch, dyke, queer, spick, and nigger. We had to break up into small groups and have a discussion and mind you I was the only black person in my group of the two black people in the class of about 25 students. When one of my group members started to talk about the use of the "n-word" his voice was trembling and I was cracking up on the inside (of course he didnt say the word in its entirety he would just say n-word). I know for me personally I see it as a term of endearment amongst my ppl but I know that some of "us" really do get offended by the use of the word period regardless of who says it black, white, puerto rican, etc. So anyway my question is how do you feel about the use of the word nigga b/c i know black ppl dont say "nigger" we say "nigga"?

that word is a crack addiction. You know it's wrong, but ya use it anyway. Me, I try to catch myself when I say it. One of my white friends tried to explain her philosophy of the term nigga and nigger....she thought it was cool to say nigga....and I'm like..."NO!" I was greatly upset that I was forced to smack one of my nearest and dearest friends in the mouth that evening...but she got the hint.
